Friday, April 26th proved to be the perfect evening for the AIA Orlando Design Awards Gala. Held at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts the event's program recognized excellence in design. Timothy Bernardi and Barbara Bernardi were joined by Mader Southeast Building Information Modelling Manager O. Armando Guerra , CM-BIM(M.Arch) and his wife Elizabeth. Everyone present celebrated the very best in architectural design. In addition to his work at Mader, Armando serves as the Vice-Chair of AIA Allied of Orlando. Just a fantastic evening!

MADER SAFETY FIELD TRIP ... Team Mader dropped into Southern Safety & Supply last week. Myself and MSE Senior Safety Manager Brady Proctor and Site Safety Manager Cat Banuchi said hello to proprietor Rob Kershner, and picked up six cases of Squincher popsicles for an upcoming hydration training event. Brady and Cat delivered the popsicles to PCL Construction HSE Manager Ryan Oldham, GSP -- who is running safety management at Epic Universe Project 905.

MADER'S SAFETY CELEBRITY ... Always in the mood for a party, Mader Site Safety Manager Cathy "Cat" Banuchi was on hand to celebrate Women in Construction Week ("WIC Week") at the Epic Universe construction site. Cathy is a member of NAWIC Greater Orlando Chapter 73 and a genuine leader in the local construction safety management community ... She is seen here showing off with some of her pals ... Adis Farrington (President of the Central Florida Chapter of NAWIC) and Universal Orlando safety leader Doni Denning,CHST ... And goodness knows Cat wouldn't pass up the chance to grab a quick selfie with ABC of Central Florida President/CEO Michele Daugherty ... The Epic Universe site was the place to be -- as more than 100 women construction workers were treated to lunch, a raffle and some other surprises ... Who runs the world?

PAINTING THE VILLAGE (DAY 3) ... One last push at the Central Florida Children's Safety Village ... Safety Director Timothy Bernardi was joined today by Mader warehouse associate Edwin Rodriguez ... Our guys tackled the front of the building and green painting on doors, trim and the AC screen fence ... Might circle back next week for some bits and pieces ... But as for now it's looking pretty sharp!

PAINTING THE VILLAGE (DAY 2) ... The team led by Mader Southeast Safety Director Timothy Bernardi made some excellent progress today -- spraying the expansive walls and getting a jump on the green trim. Mader wants to give a big shout out to ABC of Central Florida CEO/President Michele Daugherty for connecting the project with Andre Ogeerally, President of @A Ogeerally Painting for sending Carlos -- who did an outstanding job. Kudos to Debbie Rodriguez and Competitive Edge Partners & Consulting, LLC for bringing sisters Vanessa and Natcha Porras, to handle prep and paint. A standing ovation for Nelson and Michelle Arias (master carpenters) for rebuilding the screen fence around the air-conditioning unit. This team has skills and are moving forward. Stay tuned!

Mader is a long time supporter of NAWIC Greater Orlando Chapter 73 . Mader.team members Adien Diaz Saint Hilaire , Leah Caldwell, Melody Sivri and Cathy Banuchi are all regular attendees at NAWIC Events. Earlier this week, Mader Safety Director Timothy Bernardi donated some time to speak with students at Lyman High School -- discussing career opportunities in construction and occupational safety management. Hosted by NAWIC member Kelly Phelan and Lyman teacher Paul Allen, Tim was joined by local safety legend (NAWIC National Secretary) and Hj High Construction Safety Director Cindy Spiropoulos CIT, LEED GA. The participating students were fantastic, enthusiastic and curious. Thank you to Kelly and Mr. Allen for providing Cindy and Tim with the chance to talk to these great young people.

GO GATORS! GO MADER! ... Mader Southeast Director of Operations Randy Ramer, Senior Project Manager Jeff Henderson and BIM/VDC Manager O. Armando Guerra , CM-BIM(M.Arch) journeyed up to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida's Rinker School of Construction Career Expo. Mader maintains a regular footprint at the event -- sharing conversations with the next generation of construction safety professionals. The students who stopped by Mader's table expressed interest in both field and project management careers. Mader welcomes the opportunity to participate in the expo -- taking time to talk with students while maintaining our standing in the market.

Besides being a safety leader on Walt Disney World construction sites, Jodi is committed to serving as a role model for the remarkable young women in her troop. Working with Mader Site Safety Manager Cathy Banuchi, Mader Southeast acquired ten packages of GSA cookies to share with the construction team at the new Disney Vacation Club tower at Polynesian Village Resort. LOOKING FOR SOME HELPFUL HANDS ... The Children's Safety Village of Central Florida has a big presence in the heart of our community. Lead by Director Brent Moore, the village serves as an education center -- teaching elementary aged children about pedestrian safety, helping parents obtain car seats and hosting events like the annual Halloween Trunk or Treat and Santa's Village programs. Part of the village includes an indoor pool to provide instruction in child pool safety. Well I've decided to support the effort to re-paint the village's pool building. Over the course of the month of February (and culminating on the morning of Saturday, February 24th) I will be looking for the generosity of time -- asking local individuals to come out, grab a roller and put in some work.
