This MPS Awareness Day, we’re shedding light on the importance an early diagnosis of MPS II (also known as Hunter syndrome) can have for patients and their families. Most MPS II patients are not diagnosed until they are 2-4 years old, by which time this #RareDisease may have already progressed, resulting in irreversible symptoms and decreased life expectancy. Newborn screening could help these young children and their families receive a potentially life-changing diagnosis early enough for impactful action. We remain steadfast in our commitment to advocate for the inclusion of MPS II to recommended uniform screening panels at the state level, with a goal of screening 50% of births – or 1.4 million babies – in the U.S. by 2026. The World Health Organization recently added Takeda's dengue vaccine to its list of prequalified vaccines, reinforcing the vaccine's quality and suitability for use in immunization programs. With the completion of this assessment by the WHO, the vaccine can now be procured through United Nations agencies. This follows the WHO updating its position paper on dengue vaccines to include final guidance on the use of our dengue vaccine in public vaccination programs. Looking back on a year of historically high dengue cases globally, we're proud to be taking this important step towards broadening global access to an additional #dengue prevention tool.
